I've just returned from an early celebration of my birthday - my 60th. An event that I haven't minded and indeed have enjoyed - recognising my achievements in life to date. I have, however, discovered the unfortunate phenomena of the 'invisible' older woman. The group event I went to was full of younger people, 40's and 50's or people with their own friends. I was by myself but have always been happy to converse and engage with others. I was stunned though to come away realising that if I wasn't prepared to push myself into conversations then I was left invisible on the sidelines.
